Enhancing Online Privacy and Personalization: Local IP Address Region Switching from Google One VPN Gives Users Power.
Google One is improving its VPN service by shifting from using broad IP addresses to more localized ones. This enhancement aims to optimize users’ location-based experiences.
By the end of July, Google One’s VPN will automatically assign your IP location to a local region as the default setting. This modification is intended to improve the accuracy of location-based features on the apps and websites you use.
Some users have encountered problems with location-based apps, such as weather services, while using Google One’s VPN (including Fi). Occasionally, their location is mistakenly identified as a completely different state, even if they are only a few cities away. Google has likely received similar feedback, which prompted this update.
Despite the change, Google assures users that their network provider and the websites they visit will still be unable to identify their actual IP address or precise location. This commitment to privacy remains unchanged.
